The Weeknd makes it back to back tracks with “Blinding Lights” drop

Making his return earlier this week with an initial hint/subliminal message regarding new music. The Weeknd dropped “Heartless” on Tuesday and now he has dropped “Blinding Lights”.

“Heartless” took on more of a dark/edgy/Trap/Alternative R&B approach that the Weeknd has been associated with throughout his musical career. “Blinding Lights” on the other hand, is a throwback to the 1980’s with a Funk/R&B/Pop approach to its sound. This approach and sound is more relevant to the Weeknd’s more recent releases, in particular, his collaborations with Daft Funk. The track does not sample it but it is not a far cry from a-ha’s 1985 hit “Take On Me”, with the use of its electronic/synth keyboard and upbeat/fast paced bass.

Neither track has been accompanied by a music video yet but one for “Blinding Lights” is expected.
