Discussion: The Biggest Artists from every American State

In a country so large, it is easy to see how difficult it is to become the biggest artist from a particular state, let alone the whole country. Amongst the 50 states of America, some States have produced some of the biggest names in music.

On the other hand, some States have struggled to produce an artist that has had a siginificant claim in the Top Charts or the Rap/Hip-Hop and R&B scene.

Below, we have taken a look at each State of America and some of the biggest rappers/singers to hail from that state. It must also be noted, we are looking at artists that were born in the State. Any artist that has moved to that State or has an affiliation, does not count.

Alabama – Gucci Mane, YBN Nahmir and RichBoy
Out of the rappers to be born in Alabama, Gucci Mane has definitely had the most successful career to date with it spanning well over 10 years. The rapper has recently become the first one in history to release over 100 mixtapes/albums with the latest release being Delusions of Grandeur. There are some honorable mentions for Alabama in RichBoy who had a brief stint in the charts back in 2007 and current, up and coming artist YBN Nahmir was born in Birmingham, Alabama.

Alaska – None

Unfortunately, we struggled to find any artists hailing from Alaska…

Arizona – None

Arkansas – None

California – Snoop Dogg,
Dr. Dre, Ice Cube & NWA, The Game, Tyga, Kendrick Lamar, Ty Dolla $ign and YG
The State of California has been a goldmine for rappers and Hip-Hop talent. It was not hard to find an artist from California, the hard part was decided which one is currently the biggest. You have some throwback and legends in the Hip-Hop/Rap and R&B scene with the likes of Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and NWA hailing from the California state. More recently, the likes of Tyga, YG, Ty Dolla $ign, Kendrick Lamar and The Game come into conversation. Kendrick Lamar is by the far one of the best lyricists but Tyga has had a huge past year and a half that started off with the release of “Taste” in the summer of 2018. Since then, Tyga has come on leaps and bounds to become one of the hottest names in the Rap/R&B scene right now. The only thing that may let him down is his current album release.

Colorado – Playalitical
We did struggle with Colorado but we did come across Playalitical. Not that known among many but he did feature on a remix of T-Pain’s huge hit “Buy U A Drank” in 2007 and also a remix of Yung Joc’s “It’s Goin’ Down” in 2006.

Connecticut – Cassie

To date, Cassie has released only one studio album being the self entitled debut album in 2006. The album included one of her biggest hits to date, “Me & U”. The track put Cassie on the musical map. We struggled to find any rappers or singers from Iowa but we felt we could not leave Bangladesh out. Anyway, here we are…The producer behind some of the biggest beats in Hip-Hop including Lil Wayne’s “A Milli” and “6 Foot 7 Foot”. Since then, Bangladesh has gone on to produce beats for more of the biggest names in Hip-Hop,

Eminem is still regarded as one of the biggest and best rappers on the planet but in the early 2000’s was the start of Shady being able to take his multiple personas, witty, dark and clever lyrics globally. “The Real Slim Shady” and “Lose Yourself” are just two songs in a huge catalog of music.
